Darche – Eclipse 270 Freestanding LED Awning
The Eclipse 270 Freestanding LED Awning is the result of extensive design and testing by DARCHE over the past two years. This second-generation awning is engineered to perform under pressure and has undergone rigorous development before ever reaching the market.
According to the manufacturer, DARCHE is the first in Australia to extensively wind-test a freestanding awning. Over a 30-day testing period, the Eclipse 270 was exposed to a full range of wind conditions—from light breezes to intense gusts—based on the Beaufort scale.
In initial trials, the Eclipse 270 performed solidly in winds up to 50km/h. After minor repairs, it successfully endured wind speeds of up to 55km/h. In later tests, with poles down and the awning properly pegged, it held strong even in gusts reaching 90km/h. These results were recorded using the Omega OM-CP-WIND101A wind speed data logger, calibrated with data from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology for accuracy and consistency.
The awning features engineered break points, designed to protect your vehicle and allow for straightforward repairs in the unlikely event of damage. Based on all collected data, the Eclipse 270 is rated for freestanding use in winds up to 30km/h. However, we strongly recommend always using the support poles, pegs, and guy ropes, especially when the weather turns unpredictable. It’s the best way to protect your gear and ensure a safe setup.
Beyond its durability, the Eclipse 270 is packed with user-focused features. Dual-colour dimmable LED strips are integrated directly into the rafter arms, and a two-piece backing plate design with a fully enclosed transit cover improves weather resistance while allowing for easy relocation to another vehicle. The overall design balances rugged reliability with modern convenience.
Looking to expand your setup? The optional Gen 2 wall kits increase the total sheltered area to an impressive 20.5 m²—perfect for longer stays or more demanding conditions.
Please note: If the awning is mounted to a rooftop tent, the poles must always be used to prevent damage to the tent.
